introduction

Based in Calpe on Spain’s Costa Blanca, the Rock Improvers programme is designed for climbers confident seconding and ready to progress into leading multi-pitch routes.

Under expert guidance, you’ll refine rope systems, anchor building, belaying, double rope techniques, and rescue procedures while developing confidence and efficiency on the rock. The area’s limestone provides the perfect setting, from single-pitch sport climbs to classic multi-pitch lines on crags such as the Peñón d’Ifach and nearby inland cliffs. Instruction is practical, progressive, and tailored to your ability, ensuring a safe and supportive environment throughout.

Between climbing sessions, you can explore Calpe’s coastal towns, relax by the sea, or opt into activities like kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding, canyoning, or trekking in the Bernia and Olta mountains. Climbing times are adjusted to suit the weather, maximising safety and enjoyment, and by the end you’ll have the technical foundation and confidence to take on multi-pitch routes independently.

Skill refinement

You’ll refine your skills in rope systems, anchor building, belaying, rescue techniques, and double rope use, with expert guidance throughout. The area’s world-class limestone offers a variety of routes, from single-pitch sport climbs to classic multi-pitch lines. Between climbs, relax in the sun, explore local towns, or opt in for optional extra activities including kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding or rowing around the port of Calpe, Penon d’ifach and surrounding beaches, as well as canyoning, mountain trekking around the Bernia or Olta, afternoon or morning visits to Valencia or Benidorm. We will change climbing times around the year to suit outdoor weather temperatures.

Each itinerary is entirely bespoke, with the flexibility to add or remove activities, adjust intensity, or refine pacing to suit your group’s preferences. Experiences can also be aligned with your mission or objectives, whether that is team building, leadership development, collaborative problem-solving or tailored adventures for student groups of all ages.

This custom focus comes at no additional cost, with price adjustments only for luxury or budget-dependent options.

IMPORTANT
CONSIDERATIONS

Flight Prices/Transfers: Flights and airport transfers in Spain are included. Flight prices from the UK may increase depending on how close to the departure date you book. Participants may arrange their own flights or request assistance if needed.
Equipment Provided: All technical and safety equipment required for the activities is provided. Technical equipment includes climbing rope, helmet, harness, and climbing shoes. A kit list will be sent in advance for clothing and personal items.
Instruction/Guiding: A qualified instructor accompanies the group for the duration of the trip, providing guidance, supervision, and instruction. Instruction covers belaying, rope work, equipment handling, and movement skills across limestone crags, tailored to intermediate climbers to those progressing toward harder grades. The instructor to client ratio is 1:6 for basic crag work and 1:2 for multi pitch routes.
Accommodation: Accommodation is provided for seven nights in a hotel or hostel. Full-board meals are included, with an option for self-catering if preferred, which reduces the price slightly.
Meals: Meals included in the itinerary consist of breakfast, packed lunch, and dinner as part of full-board accommodation, unless self-catering is selected.
Experience/Fitness/Age: Participants must be aged 14 and upward, should be physically fit and able to take part in full days of outdoor climbing. Experience in seconding single/multi pitch trad routes to V Diff is required.
Flexibility/Briefings: Daily briefings and orientation sessions are included where relevant, covering safety, climbing techniques, and route planning. Climbing times are adjusted throughout the year to suit outdoor weather conditions.
Certificates/CPD: Participants receive a certificate of completion for the course.
Optional/Location-Specific Notes: Optional free time is provided for cultural visits or additional adventure activities, with local logistics managed by the Expedition Leader.

WHAT'S
NOT INCLUDED

Transfers/Local Transport: Transfers in the UK are not included unless explicitly stated or requested. In Spain, only transfers to and from pre-organised activities are included; any additional personal transfers are not covered.
Meals & Drinks: Over-the-counter food, drinks, and personal snacks outside the provided full-board accommodation are not included.
Personal Travel & Activity Insurance: Participants are responsible for arranging their own insurance covering travel, climbing, and all optional activities, including emergency evacuation.
Personal Expenses: Items of a personal nature, such as souvenirs, laundry, or phone charges, are not included.
Visas/Entry Fees: Any visa costs, permits, or entry fees required for travel to Spain are not included.
Other Optional Costs: Any optional activities not included in the climbing programme, such as kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing, rowing, canyoning, scuba diving or excursions to Valencia or Benidorm, are not included.
