A SHORT
introduction

Spanning thirteen days across Nevada and Arizona, this expedition combines Grand Canyon trekking, camping in the Mohave desert, and a range of high-adrenaline activities.

Participants begin in Las Vegas before travelling along Route 66 to the Grand Canyon South Rim, where preparation and briefings cover safety, equipment, and canyon navigation. The expedition then descends into the Grand Canyon via the South Kaibab Trail, following the Colorado River and camping along the route while practising navigation and expedition skills. After the canyon trek, the group returns to Las Vegas with visits to iconic sites such as the Hoover Dam and stops along Route 66, including the Road Kill Cafe.

The programme also offers optional adventure activities including rock climbing at Red Rock Canyon, mountain biking, water sports, and horse riding, allowing participants to challenge themselves further. Evenings feature briefings and reflections to consolidate learning and prepare for the next day’s activities. By the end of the expedition, participants leave with enhanced trekking and outdoor skills and confidence in desert and canyon terrain.

The expedition begins at the head of the South Kaibab Trail, descending into the canyon and following the Colorado River to Phantom Ranch. Participants continue toward Cottonwood Campground, camping overnight for two nights along the route. Each day provides opportunities to practice navigation, camping skills, and river-crossing techniques while taking in the dramatic views and geological features of the canyon. Instruction focuses on safe trekking, emergency procedures, environmental awareness, and understanding the canyon’s natural history.

IMPORTANT
CONSIDERATIONS

Flight Prices/Transfers: Flights from the UK to Las Vegas are included. Flight prices from the UK may increase depending on how close to the departure date you book. Airport transfers in Las Vegas, minibus travel, and all transport between itinerary locations are included for the duration of the expedition.
Equipment Provided: All technical and safety equipment required for the expedition is provided. Participants will receive a kit list in advance for clothing and personal items. Camping equipment, including tents and cooking equipment, is provided for the multi-day Grand Canyon trek.
Instruction/Guiding: A qualified instructor or guide accompanies the group for the duration of the expedition, providing guidance, supervision, and instruction. Training and briefings cover canyon navigation, camping skills, river-crossing techniques, environmental awareness, and safety procedures. Evening reflections consolidate learning and prepare participants for the following day’s activities.
Accommodation: Accommodation is provided in hotels and at designated campsites along the Grand Canyon trek.
Meals: Meals are only included while staying in hotels.
Experience/Fitness/Age: Participants must be aged 14 and above, should be physically fit and able to take part in activities. Some days require walking up to 6 hours and carrying a rucksack of approximately 15kg.
Flexibility/Briefings: Presentations and evening briefings are included to familiarise participants with canyon hazards and emergency procedures. Every effort will be made to adhere to the itinerary, but conditions such as weather, road access, vehicle issues, or group health may necessitate changes.
Certificates/CPD: Participants may receive an Adventure1 achievement certificate upon completion.
Optional/Location-Specific Notes: Optional adventure activities include rock climbing at Red Rock Canyon (free of charge), water skiing, scuba diving, wakeboarding, mountain biking, rafting, or horse riding in the Las Vegas area. All local logistics, permits, and activity arrangements are managed by the Expedition Leader.

WHAT'S
NOT INCLUDED

Flights: Participants may arrange their own flights or request assistance if needed.
Transfers/Local Transport: Transfers in the UK are not included unless explicitly stated or requested.
Meals & Drinks: Food and beverages are not included during the camping phases. Participants are responsible for providing their own lunches and dinners while on the trek. Over-the-counter food, drinks, and snacks outside the itinerary are also not included.
Personal Travel & Activity Insurance: Participants are responsible for arranging their own insurance covering travel, trekking, camping, and optional adventure activities, including emergency evacuation.
Personal Expenses: Items of a personal nature, such as souvenirs, laundry, phone charges, or optional activities not listed in the itinerary, are not included.
Visas/Entry Fees: Any visa costs, permits, or entry fees required for travel to the USA are not included.
Other Optional Costs: Any other costs not explicitly stated in the itinerary, including optional adventure activities such as jet skiing, scuba diving, wakeboarding, mountain biking, and horse riding, are not included.
