This nine-day expedition retraces one of the most remarkable resistance operations of the Second World War, following in the footsteps of the
Norwegian saboteurs who halted Nazi Germany’s atomic ambitions.
Based in Bykle, the journey combines ski touring and winter survival training with a historically significant route across the Hardangervidda plateau, culminating in the infiltration of the Heavy Water Plant at Vemork. The programme begins with instruction in skiing techniques and essential winter skills, ensuring participants are fully prepared for the challenges of the expedition. The route then follows the drop zone and huts used by the saboteurs, with days spent skiing between remote shelters, building snow caves, and experiencing the conditions faced during the original operation. The final stage leads to Rjukan, where a guided narrative and on-the-ground exploration of the infiltration route provide powerful insight into the bravery and determination of the commandos.
More than a physical challenge, this expedition is both an immersive winter adventure and a battlefield tour, blending history, endurance, and survival skills to bring to life one of the most inspiring stories of resistance in modern history.
